National Schools Film Week
by Annika Pham
This year sees the 8th edition of the increasingly popular National Schools Film Week (NSFW), and it will kick off this Friday 10th October and carries on until the 17th across the UK. For the first time this year, the event will be held in partnership with other European countries, as part of the international programme of screenings organised by Cinedays.
Under the aegis of Film Education, NSFW will this year use the Cinedays logo and screen 17 selected European films across the UK, and special educational support documents about the films will be made available.
Providing a balanced programme of old and new European titles, NSFW will also offer discussions on important topics treated in the films. For instance the screening of Land And Freedom at the Leeds Hyde Park Picture House will be followed by a talk by Rt Hon Harold Best on the Spanish Civil War, the screening of La Haine at the Cambridge Arts Picture House will be followed by a talk on French cinema & Citizenship, and the screening of The Pianist [+see also:

Largely supported by the UK film industry and this year by the UK Film Council, NSFW will thus provide British pupils from primary and secondary schools the opportunity to view a wide selection of films from Hollywood blockbusters to documentaries from around the world, as well as to question members of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), filmmakers, script-writers and marketing directors from the major companies.
