Film bonanza on TV5

With its daily audience of 11 million and its programmes shown in more than 165 countries, TV5 is the main French TV channel in the world. And given its prominence, it’s a ideal platform to promote European cinema, and it will be participating in Cinedays 2003 from October 10 to 24. It will be broadcasting 12 great classic films in French from the Europe.

Luis Bunuel, Ettore Scola, Joseph Losey, Andrzej Wajda, Mauro Bolognini, Andrzej Zulawski and Maria de Medeiros: TV5’s special programming will enable audiences in Asia, Africa, North and South America and of course in Europe itself to see the works of these maestros. There’ll be a week of films by the Italian director, Ettore Scola, with That Night in Varennes (1982), Ballando ballando (1983) which will each be shown 4 times. There’s also an overview on the Polish filmmaker, Andrzej Wajda, including Danton (1983) starring Gérard Depardieu and The Possessed (1988) starring Isabelle Huppert. And there’s also space for British films, with the schedule including The Trout and Mr Klein by Joseph Losey, while Spain will be represented with 3 works by Luis Bunuel: The Diary of a Chambermaid (1964), Tristana (1969) and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972). The Portuguese works will be featuring the actress Maria De Medereiso, with Capitani d’Aprile (2000). Finally, Italy and Poland will be on show with The True Story of Camille (1981) by Mauro Bolognini and The Main Thing Is to Love (1975) by Andrzej Zulawski .
