FESTIVALS Belgium

Open Doeck as a distributor

by

There’s a new and original enterprise being undertaken by the Open Doek festival in Turnhout. Apart from its traditional programme, Open Doeck will be distributing 4 films in Belgium with the help of the Hubert Bals Fund (linked to the Rotterdam Festival), giving the sales rights of the works in question to the Belgium Film Library, which will oversee the circulation of the films throughout the country.

The aim of the initiative is to allow the Belgium public to discover quality films featured during festivals, which haven’t found a distributor in Belgium. This mini-festival is called “Open Doeck En Route”, and it will be shown in various cultural centres, art house cinemas and Belgium film clubs starting from November 21, 2003 and will be go until spring, 2004. The review will visit various cities for a maximum period of two weeks. The screenings will be accompanied by a variety of other special activities (exhibitions, buffets, music videos), to create a festival atmosphere. The films concerned are Loco Fever by Andrés Wood (Chile, 2001), Secret Ballot by Babak Payami (Iran, 2001), Promised Land by Jason Xenopoulos (South Africa, 2002) and The Storytellers by Eliane Caffé (Brazil, 2003).
