A new Bear

by

There’s an exciting new development planned for the 54th edition of the Berlinale: it will be putting even more focus on youngsters, and there’ll even be a new prize, The Glass Bear, for the Best Children’s Film. The traditional “Kinderfilmfest” section (Festival of Children’s Films) will feature its own competition and the films will be judged by a jury made up of teenagers aged 14 upwards. There will be six films competing for this first edition of the Glass Bear, but this number is expected to rise in the future.

“Even in the past children have always shown a lot of interest in our films” states Thomas Hailer, the director of the teenage section of the festival: “And we’re expecting a useful exchange of ideas also thanks to the participation of schools and an increased media profile for the event”.
