RTBF out of the woods
Belgium’s public television network, RTBF, can breath a sign of relief after receiving €126 million to fund the restructuring programme put forward by Piano Magellano. He is a somewhat controversial figure who has recently caused consternation amongst the workers, which was followed by a continual series of strikes.
The Minister for the Audiovisual sector, Daniel Ducarme, has officially announced the funding agreement requested by Jean-Paul Philippot, the MD at RTBF. The financing is made up of contributions from the French community (€26.4 million), the Vallonia Region (€26.4 million) and COCOF (€13.2 million) while RTBF has to find the outstanding €60 million, which will be raised through a loan of €50 million, with the French community acting as a guarantor and the final €10 million coming from the sale of property owned by the network.
