Plans for a mega Multiscreen

by

The Dutch city of Halfweg will soon boast a new cinema complex in the old CSM sugar factory. The project is for 18 screens, with 5,000 seats, and it should be opening by 2006, according to the announcement made by the entrepreneurs behind the initiative, Cobraspen and Wolff Cinema Groep.

The venture’s promotion team are hoping to also capture audiences from two nearby cities, Haarlem and Amsterdam, following recent developments in the region, namely the work at Schiphol airport, the urbanisation West of Amsterdam and the expansion of the western port. The closure of the Halfweg sugar mill left almost 100,000 square metres of space empty, which is equivalent to a third of the city’s buildings.
Wolff Cinema Group already owns 10 cinemas in Holland, the most important of which is currently the CineStar in Enschede, a structure that has 10 screens and 2,700 seats.
