Many requests for FFA funding

by

The FFA - Filmförderungsanstalt has received a large number of applications for funds to finance cinematographic projects, sent in to meet its September 30 closing date, due to the delay in the introduction of new laws, which have been put back until the end of the year. Given the increased volume of investment for the coming year, cinema operators have asked for €4,4 million of support funding, almost double the amount requested last year. In the meantime, the Commission has to evaluate 31 film projects, totalling €12.7 million, as a result of the great success of some of this year’s German films, both at home and abroad.

The next meeting of the FFA is due to be held in November and will be concentrating on distribution. This time there will be an additional 18 projects to discuss in respect to the average number of initiatives. Given the fact that cinema operators, producers and distributors are willing to make investments, the FFA has stressed the need for the FFG (the Filmförderungsgesetz, the laws governing film productions) to be approved as quickly as possible.
