PRIZES Germany

Between Madrid and Hesse

by

The Hesse Region Cinema prize (Hessischer Filmpreis) has been awarded to the film Madrid by the first time director Daphne Charizani, produced for Naked Eye by Sabine Lamby and Giulio Ricciarelli, with ZDF, MTM Munich and a contribution from FFF - Bavaria.

Presented to the public at the Munich Festival in June 2003, Madrid is the story of an immigrant Spanish family in Germany: when her parents decide to go back to Spain, Isabel chooses to stay in Germany, until she meets Manuel, who is half Spanish, and starts to feel nostalgia for Spain. The jury’s motivation reads: “the director Daphne Charizani evokes the nostalgia, an undefined feeling, tied to a place that doesn’t exist, of the two main characters in her film, with dexterity and poetry.”.
