) is currently working on his animation debut, a musical entitled Spermageddon. In detail, the plot follows two main storylines: one centres on the emerging love story between two awkward teens, Jens and Lisa, who are having sex for the first time; the second focuses on the eventful quest of Simon the Semen and his friends to reach the golden goal, the Egg. The script was penned by Wirkola himself, alongside Jesper Sundnes and Vegar Hoel.

“This is both a road movie and an epic adventure, a most incredible journey, much like Lord of the Rings. But instead of orcs and elves, our heroes have to do battle with sperm-killing creams and E. coli trolls,” said Wirkola in the director’s notes disclosed by Variety, the first trade to report the news.

The project, now in development, will enter production by the end of 2021. It will be co-directed by Rasmus Sivertsen (Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond, Louis & Luca - Mission to the Moon). Meanwhile, Wirkola is waiting for his latest feature to premiere. Entitled The Trip, the thriller starring Noomi Rapace in the lead role is set for release on 30 July.

Spermageddon is being produced by Jørgen Storm Rosenberg and Kjetil Omberg for Oslo-based outfit 74 Entertainment. The animation is being handled by Norwegian studio Qvisten, whilst France’s Charades will serve as the world sales agent. The official release date is yet to be disclosed.
