as their pick for Best Film. It comes as no surprise, too – Mariusz Wilczyński’s animated magnum opus is a precious gem of a movie, which should not be overlooked just to keep the galas’ levels of suspense intact. The Polish Film Awards ceremony proved to be no exception, as Kill It and Leave This Town netted the Golden Eagle for Best Film, as well as three other gongs, for Best Screenplay (Mariusz Wilczyński), Best Music (Tadeusz Nalepa) and Best Sound (Franciszek Kozłowski). However, a different film, 25 Years of Innocence. The Case of Tomek Komenda [+see also:

by Jan Komasa picked up the Audience Award. Jan P Matuszyński, the director of King of Warsaw, a show set in 1930s Warsaw, accepted the Best Series Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to score composer and legendary jazz musician Jerzy “Duduś” Matuszkiewicz.

The overall atmosphere of the gala hosted by TV personality and film expert Grażyna Torbicka was pleasant enough; however, the enthusiasm exuded by many presenters and recipients seemed subdued – either due to the heat wave that is currently ravaging Poland, or simply post-COVID fatigue.
