The Kimolos International Film Festival has rounded off its third edition (21-28 June) with its awards ceremony. For eight days, the festival managed to bring special cinematic experiences to all four corners of the Cycladic island, as the screenings happened in a different location every night and, most of the time, by the seaside. Aiming to promote and support independent cinema, the festival introduced both popular and lesser-known films to the local and international audience that attended all of its screenings.

The Golden Tree, the main prize of the festival, was bestowed upon the drama The Inner Glow by Venezuelan directors Andrés Eduardo Rodríguez and Luis Alejandro Rodríguez. The film, which competed at the 43rd Moscow International Film Festival, follows Silvia (Jerico Montilla), a young woman suffering from a serious illness, who is faced with the responsibility of watching over and taking care of her little daughter. After multiple attempts to find someone to help and with a broken family relationship, Silvia forges a plan and decides to make a radical and desperate decision.

The five-member international jury, headed by Bernadette Icovic, a member of the Cannes Critics’ Week team, along with Italian director Francesca Bartellini, Romanian documentary film director Alina Manolache, Greek actor Giorgos Pyrpasopoulos and local director of photography Aristotelis Metaxas, also deemed Irish filmmaker Philip Doherty worthy of the Best Director Award, for his debut feature, the dark comedy Redemption of a Rogue [+see also:

The closing ceremony took place at Kimolos Castle, and it was hosted by the festival presenter, actress Marizza Spirito. The artistic director of the festival, Manuel de Coco, also announced that the fourth Kimolos International Film Festival would take place in June 2022.
