28/07/2021 - The leading pitching and co-production forum for kids' and youth content will be held in a hybrid format from 28 September-1 October

Kids Kino Industry, the pitching and co-production forum for feature films and series (live-action, animation and documentaries) and one of the most important events in Eastern and Central Europe aimed at kids and youth content, is getting ready for its fifth edition running from 28 September-1 October, both in Warsaw and online. Thanks to the hybrid format, KKI will be able to welcome pitching teams, decision makers and professionals in person, if the current situation allows it, while the whole programme will also be accessible online.

Regarding the selection of the fifth edition of Kids Kino Industry, a total of 24 projects, 12 films and 12 series, (17 of which are in development, six are works in progress and one project will have its market presentation) hailing from 19 different countries, have been selected from among 74 submissions and a series of collaborations with CEE Animation Forum and M:brane. It should be noted that one more project in development from Latin America will be added to the line-up thanks to the newly established cooperation with comKids+BrLab.

The projects were selected by the Kids Kino Industry team: Maciej Jakubczyk, head of the Kids Kino International Film Festival, Katarzyna Janiak, project manager, and Viola Gabrielli, head of programme, as well as the international selection committee: Sandra Le Blanc-Marissal, commissioning editor at children & youth entertainment, NDR; Debbie Macdonald, children’s media consultant and content creator; Alicja Grawon-Jaksik, president of the board of the Polish Producers Alliance (KIPA); and Petri Kemppinen, consultant and founder of P1 Kemppinen. 

A vast array of subjects is covered by the projects, which include a live-action sentimental comedy for children with puppets; an adventure film inspired by the life of the explorer Alexander Laime, who was with his family in the Venezuelan jungle in the 1950s; a musical set in Yugoslavia after the collapse of the Berlin Wall; projects that are based on bestselling books; and an animated series looking at climate change, diversity and an inclusive and conscious society. The projects will be featured in a series of pitching sessions to Polish and international professionals, including distributors, broadcasters, investors, VoD platform representatives, film funds and festivals, and will be followed by one-on-one meetings.

The event will also offer a number of masterclasses, workshops, panel discussions, consultations and many other inspiring activities for those attending and the programme will be announced soon. Accreditations will be on sale from mid-August.

Apart from the projects selected for Kids Kino Industry, the projects that are currently being worked on in the Kids Kino Lab script development workshop will be presented on one of the days of the forum. Kids Kino Industry and Kids Kino Lab are part of the Kids Kino International Film Festival taking place in September in Warsaw and twenty other Polish cities (and online).
