, in the Piazza Grande strand of this year’s Locarno International Film Festival (4-14 August 2021).

The story, penned by Kornelija Naraks, is set in 1906 and centres on Hanna Leitner (Maresi Riegner), a young mother who longs for nothing more than to break free from her role of middle-class mum and society’s strictures. She abandons her family and flees to the sanatorium at Monte Verità. There, in the idyllic countryside of southern Switzerland and in the passionate pursuit of her art, Hanna soon has to face up to making a decision that is tearing her apart: can she go back to her family without surrendering herself?

The film was produced by Katrin Renz for Switzerland’s Tellfilm. The co-producers are Austria’s KGP Filmproduktion, Germany’s Coin Film and MMC Movies Köln, RSI Radiotelevisione Svizzera/SRG SSR and Switzerland’s Blue. Its international sales are being handled by The Playmaker. DCM Film Distribution will release the picture in Switzerland on 26 August and in Germany on 2 December.
