film profile]. Tsintsadze, known especially for his films On the Border, winner of the Silver Leopard at the 1993 Locarno Film Festival, and Gun-Shy, which scooped the Golden Shell at San Sebastián in 2003, is now preparing a thriller.
Roxy will focus on Thomas, a taxi driver in his forties. One day, a Russian gang and their bulldog, Roxy, get into his cab. Thomas joins the gang in the hope of making money and becomes infatuated with Aziza, the wife of Igor, the leader of the gang.
“I see Roxy as a great opportunity to make a very special, funny and, at the same time, suspenseful movie about love and faith... About how certain circumstances and almost random events could lead to the inevitable process of the slow but still clearly visible metamorphosis of a quiet and ordinary man. This change happens at every level, ranging from deep psychological moments to the very practical act of switching identity,” Tsintsadze stated about the movie.
The film will star Devid Striesow as Thomas. Vakho Chachanidze and Camilla Borghesan are also among the main cast.
Germany’s East End Film (Elaine Niessner and Tommy Niessner) is co-producing the film together with Belgian outfit Umedia (Beata Saboova) and Moscow-based Viva Films (Nadya Gorshkova). Its world sales are being handled by Atlas International Film, and Kinostar will manage the German release of the movie.
