Da Silva goes to EuropaCorp
After unexpectedly resigning from his position as the delegate-general of the prestigious Cannes sidebar section, Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in July, it hasn’t taken François da Silva long to find a new position. In fact he has just joined Luc Besson and Pierre-Ange Le Pogam’s production and distribution company, EuropaCorp, as artistic director.
During his 20 years in the film industry François da Silva has been a director, programmer and the driving force in theatres. In his career he has opened 7 art house cinemas, include the César Variétés in Marseille, and has also worked on the programming for many cinemas in Paris. His profile as an independent was one of the things that attracted the Society of Film Directors (SRF) to appoint him as head of the Quinzaine des réalisateurs at Cannes in October 2002. But his controversial selection of works for last May didn’t convince the professionals in the sector, in spite of the many young talents in the line up, and the SRF decided to replace him with Olivier Père at the start of July.
However his time at the Quinzaine has opened up new opportunities for Da Silva, leading to this new position at EuropaCorp “and to create an editorial police, concentrating on international cinematography”.
