The emotions of L'autre
by Marie-France Dupagne
In Belgium, today is the day for the release of the new film by Benoît Mariage,L'autre. For his second feature length film the filmmaker has worked with many of the actors who starred in his previous production, The Missing Half: Dominique Baeyens, Philippe Grand'Henry and Bouli Lanners.
After making a comedy that went down extremely well both in Belgium and abroad, this time Benoît Mariage has decided to feature the drama of a couple expecting twins. The couple are forced to make a terrible choice: they can only keep one embryo. It’s a personal and uncompromising work where the director expresses his harsh but incredibly moving vision of life. Once again, he has shown his skill at directing the actors, and Mariage has also managed to heighten the emotion with a subtle blend of professional and non-professional performers.
The film is a European co-production, produced by Dominique Janne > (K2 - Belgium, K-Star - France) and Jean-Louis Porchet (CAB Productions - Switzerland). L'autre is distributed in Belgium in 6 prints by Cinéart. It has already had a successful series of presentations at the festivals of San Sebastian, Namur, Gand and London. It will also be distributed in France by Mars Films.
