CINEDAYS 2003 UK

Czech tribute in Wales

by

The National Screen and Sound Archives in Wales has teamed up with the Národní Filmový Archiv in Prague to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the making of The Silent Village, based on the tragic events in Lidice (Czechoslovakia) during the Second World War.

Today, the NSSAW is organising an educational workshop based on the film, with local children in Ystradgynlais and Cwmgïedd, and a screening of the film will be held at the Kino Prospeno in Prague.
The tribute to The Silent Village will continue tomorrow with a special reception and a screening event at the South Wales Pontardawe Arts Centre. Local schools, residents, directors from Wales and the Czech Republic will attend the event, celebrating European film history and education within the Cinedays 2003 pan-European programme.
