Ernestas Jankauskas’ sophomore feature, I Am Fine, Thanks [+see also:
interview: Ernestas Jankauskas, Gabija…
film profile], is one of the titles selected for the 1-2 Competition of this year’s Warsaw Film Festival (8-17 October). Previously, the Lithuanian filmmaker directed over 40 award-winning adverts, and his short The Queen of England Stole My Parents won several awards and was distributed by Lithuania cinema chains. His first feature, Sasha Was Here [+see also:
film profile], premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in 2018 and was selected by Shanghai, Les Arcs, Odesa and 15 additional gatherings. His latest endeavour, sold worldwide by Rome-based sales agent TVCO, was penned by Birutė Kapustinskaitė, Gabija Siurbyte and the director himself.
In detail, the story focuses on Maria (played by Gabija Siurbyte, also the producer and screenwriter), who comes back to her former life after checking herself out of an anxiety clinic, where she was treated for panic attacks. To get back her position as a lead researcher and to convince her family that she is fine, she hides her breakdowns that manifest themselves as crazy hallucinations. However, hiding her special condition while also competing for a neuroscience project and love from her family is more difficult than she would have thought. Other cast members include Andrius Paulavicius, Mija di Marco, Nele Savicenko, Donatas Simukauskas, Marius Repsys, Elvyra Zebertaviciute and Dovile Kundrotaite.
I Am Fine, Thanks was staged by Gabija Siurbyte for Vilnius-based outfit Dansu Film.
