Written by Mauricio Carrasco (who graduated from La Fémis’ screenwriting department in 2018) and Édouard Salier himself, the story plunges into the year 2028 to follow Lazaro (Pablo Cobo) and Tristan (Louis Peres) who are brothers and best friends. One day, Tristan is contaminated by toxic waste which leaves him physically monstrous, mentally impaired and fluorescent by night. It’s a catastrophe which forces Lazaro to grieve for his brother and to learn to love him as he is, in a world which has no place for monsters…

Tropic is produced by Ninon Chapuis and Jean-Michel Rey on behalf of Rezo Productions, in co-production with Digital District and Pictanovo. Pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature film also enjoys support from the CNC, by way of an advance on receipts, as well as from the Hauts-de-France and Grand Est regions, and the SOFICA company Cinécap. With photography entrusted to Mathieu Plainfossé (who drew attention via his American work The Iron Orchard), it’s also worth noting that this work was selected, in project form, for the 2020 Emergence Film Lab. Distribution in France will be steered by Rezo Films and international sales by Pulsar Content.

For the record, the Rezo Productions pipeline also includes the project Les Jours plus intenses de Guido Kalb by Italy’s Tommaso Usberti (who graduated from La Fémis and won the 3rd Cinéfondation Prize in Cannes 2017 with Two Youths Died), on which filming is scheduled to start in the spring.
