There’s a new entry for the pre-selection process for the 2004 Oscar for Best Short Film. It’s the Spanish work Déjà vu by Jesus Garcia. Having won the 7th edition of the Hollywood Film Festival it has gained the right to take part in the pre-selection of the shortlist of 5 candidates which will be competing for the prestigious award. The short film by the 25 year old director from Salamanca beat off competition from 15 finalists from countries like France, Britain, Australia and America to come away with this latest prize. In fact it’s the 15th award the film has won , though the Hollywood Festival is one of the most important in the world for short films. In this short story Garcìa uses a narrative style that mixes the elements of thrillers and fantasy, set in two different eras. While waiting for the decision by the members of the American Academy, the director is already working on a feature length film project, called Espejismo.
