Today is the closing day for this second edition of Cinedays, the initiative promoted by the European Union. Over the last two weeks, European cinematographic heritage and films have been celebrated in events involving cinemas, film libraries and archives, television networks and educational and cultural associations in cities across the continent. It’s been an opportunity for the younger generation to enhance their knowledge of European cinematographic culture and have a better understanding of the use of the image.
In fact the main aim of Cinedays was to allow Europeans in general, and youngsters in particular, to discover or rediscover the treasures of European cinema, widen their film culture and simply their understanding of Europe, as well as exploiting European heritage, in all its richness and diversity.

Over the course of just a few days, the official Cinedays website, made by Cineuropa, was visited by 25,000 surfers.

Tonight, from 17:30 onwards, the Auditorium in Rome will be hosting the Cinedays Closing Ceremony, in the presence of the Italian Minister of Culture, Giuliano Urbani, the European Commissioner for Cultural Affairs and the Audiovisual Industry, Viviane Reding, and the Oscar winning director Gabriele Salvatores, who has endorsed the event.
The actor and Scottish director, Peter Mullan, author of the film The Magdalene Sisters [+see also:

, which won this year’s MEDIA prize, and the Spanish actress Assumpta Serna will also both be attending the ceremony.
