Joaquín Reyes and Ernesto Sevilla to release Poor Devil
- This adult animation series created by the famous comedy duo is directed by Miguel Esteban and produced by Buendia Estudios, on contract by HBO Max
To mark its launch in Spain, HBO Max has announced the production of Poor Devil, an adult animated series consisting of eight 20-minute episodes, created and written by Miguel Esteban, Joaquín Reyes and Ernesto Sevilla, and co-written by Helena Pozuelo (daughter of the comic actor Javier Cansado), directed by Esteban. This is the first animation production to be contracted by this platform in Spain (where it will be released next year) and is produced by Buendía Estudios.
The series introduces Stan, who is just a normal guy, except for one little detail: he is the actual Antichrist. Not only that, but he has just reached 665 months of age, so there is just one more month to go before the prophecy is fulfilled and he has to face his destiny: to immerse humanity in total horror and chaos and bring about Armageddon. However, Stan is actually more interested in singing and dancing in a Broadway musical.
Joaquín Reyes will play the voice of Stan while Ernesto Sevilla will take on the role of Mefisto, a demonic, hedonistic and hustling cat who is addicted to drugs and whose job is to buy souls: he is also Stan’s godfather. The remaining characters will be played, among others, by writer and monologuist Ignatius Farray as Satan; YouTuber Gakian as Samael, a demon specialising in possessions and actress Verónica Forqué (Almodóvar’s unforgettable Kika).
Miguel Salvat, executive producer of HBO Max, said about the series: “We all know people who have had to make the decision to join the family business or follow in their parents’ footsteps. Poor Devil takes this to the extreme in an entertaining way, along the now classic Warner Media format of adult animation series. So, I hope people will instantly fall in love with Stan and his demonic cat."
The animation work for the series will be completed by the Granada-based studio Rokyn Animation, led by Manuel Sicilia (The Missing Lynx, Justin and the Knights of Valour [+see also:
film profile]). Ernesto Sevilla, whose latest work as an actor was Descarrillados [+see also:
film profile], by Fer García Ruíz, is due to release his firm feature movie as a Director: Camera Café, based on the famous television series.
Meanwhile, the super-prolific Joaquín Reyes –creator of legendary animations such as Enjuto Mojamuto– appeared in ¡A todo tren! Destino Asturias [+see also:
