Searching for Greek Cinema
- Two of most celebrated women directors are to be screened in London and Glasgow
Continuing their long association with London's Riverside Studios, the Greek Film Center and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture are organising a retrospective of six films (three each) by two of Greece´s most celebrated women directors, Tonia Marketaki, and the late Frieda Liappa, whose premature death hit Greek cinema very hard.
The programme consists of Marketaki´s John the violent, The Price of Love, e Crystal Nights and Liappa´s Love wanders in the night, A quiet death, The years of the big heat and it is hoped the event will bring more visibility to Greek cinema, as well as delighting Greek film fans. The screenings will take place in London on June 9 and 16, followed by Edinburgh and Glasgow in July, and are accompanied by two complementary catalogues with lots of information about these two artists´ work.
