film profile] by German director Jessica Krummacher will have its world premiere on 12 February in the Berlinale's Encounters competition. Cineuropa brings you a first look at the film with an exclusive clip.
The Death of My Mother tells the story of the final path trodden together by a daughter and her seriously ill mother in a compassionate and gentle way. It is a slow farewell, in which the two become infinitely close, both physically and spiritually, until something separates them: the longed-for death.
Krummacher wrote the script based on her own experiences, and young German actress Birte Schnöink (Amour Fou [+see also:

film profile]) stars in the lead role of the daughter, while Dutch actress Elsie de Brauw (Quicksand [+see also:

series profile]) plays her mother. Johanna Orsini, Susanne Bredehöft, Gina Haller and Christian Löber also star.
The Death of My Mother is Krummacher’s second appearance at an A-list festival, after her film-school graduation project Totem [+see also:

film profile], which world-premiered in the Venice International Film Festival's International Film Critics' Week in 2011.
The Death of My Mother is a production by Walker + Worm Film, in collaboration with Klappboxfilme and in co-production with Bayerischer Rundfunk.
