07/06/2002 - The Midnight Sun Film Festival begins next week

The 17th of The Midnight Sun Film Festival, organised in co-operation with Finnish Film Archive, will take place in Sodankylä, 12-16 June. The village of Sodankylä is located in the heart of Finnish Lapland, 120 kilometers above the ArcticCircle, where the sun doesn´t set at all in the summertime.
This `no-fancy-cocktail-party´ Festival is to host many guests. Besides the American Director, Francis Ford Coppola who´s coming to Finland for the first time, are the Canadian Denys Arcand, Miklós Jancsó from Hungary, Marco Bellocchio from Italy and Fernando E. Solanas from Argentina.
The festival has three principal sections: films by the most famous film directors of all times, pearls of the contemporary cinema and silent movies with live music. The festival programme will also include a review of the latest Finnish film productions and several children´s performances every day.
