Organised by the Mediterranean Film Institute (MFI), the MFI Script 2 Film Workshops training programme has launched the call for its 2022 session. The programme offers a platform for the effective script and project development of European and international fiction features, series projects and feature-length documentaries. The programme consists of four intensive workshop sessions, based primarily on group work, master classes, lectures, plenary sessions, case studies and individual consultations, and offers an overarching development methodology for the participating projects.

As at previous editions, the MFI Script 2 Film Workshops are aiming to produce solid screenplays that will have a strong dramatic impact on international audiences. At the same time, the programme offers participants the tools required to set up an effective project development process (presentation, financing, and formation of co-productions), thus improving the participating projects' potential in terms of markets and audiences.

Furthermore, a number of places are reserved for the training of future script-development professionals (screenwriters, script consultants, trainers, commissioning editors, producers and decision makers) who wish to improve their skills in a practical way throughout the workshops, as they can serve as assistant trainers working alongside the programme’s tutors during the development of the participating scripts.

The MFI is also offering a scholarship for the 2022 MFI Script 2 Film Workshops, covering the tuition fees and subsistence costs, valued at €2,000, for one Ukrainian filmmaker, provided that the project meets the evaluation criteria, as set out by the team of readers. In order to give people time to apply properly, especially amidst these difficult conditions, the MFI has extended the deadline until 1 April for applicants with a project, and until 20 April for applicants without a project. All relevant information can be found here.

According to current plans, the first session of the 2022 edition of the MFI Script 2 Film Workshops will take place in late June on the Greek island of Nisyros, and the second will run online in August and September. For the third session, the participants will meet on the island of Rhodes in October, and the programme will wrap with the fourth, online, session in January 2023.

European and international creative teams, composed of screenwriters, producers and directors, with a feature-length fiction film (Film Lab), feature documentary (Doc Lab) or TV series (Series Lab) project in development, are eligible to apply.

The MFI Script 2 Film Workshops programme is supported by the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme, in partnership with ERT SA. It is funded by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy, the Municipalities of Nisyros and Rhodes, and EKOME SA, and is organised in co-operation with the Thessaloniki International Film Festival Agora, Los Angeles Greek Film Festival, Cinemed Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival, Istanbul Film Festival Meetings on the Bridge, Sofia Meetings, Visions du Réel and Series Mania.
