EXCLUSIVE: Poster for CPH:DOX title Electric Malady
- Marie Lidén’s documentary digs deep into the troubled existence of a 40-year-old electro-sensitive man

Out in the middle of the Swedish wilderness stands a small, red house, wherein a 40-year-old man, called William, lives a mere bodily existence. William is electro-sensitive and has been so for over ten years. He is forced to stay at a distance from all electronics, and the many layers of fabric over his head shield him from the radiation that makes him sick. This is the premise of Marie Lidén’s new documentary Electric Malady [+see also:

film profile]; Lidén’s own mother suffered from the same illness, and the helmer moved in with William to understand his condition. Presented as “a modern folk-horror tale that confronts us with what it means to suffer from a condition that is not recognised by the rest of the world”, Electric Malady is set to world-premiere in the NORDIC:DOX competition of this year’s CPH:DOX (23 March-3 April).
The feature was produced by Aimara Reques for Aconite Productions (UK), and co-produced by Su Bainbridge and Lorna Jane Ferguson, in association with Beth Allan, for Forest of Black (UK). It also received backing from Screen Scotland and Chicken & Egg Pictures.
