The VoD platform KVIFF.TV, which the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival launched last year (see the news) and trialled during the 55th edition of the event, will be streaming content and all of the important moments from the upcoming iteration of the gathering for fans all over the globe. The position of the VoD platform within the KVIFF’s ecosystem has been bolstered after the KVIFF Group acquired a majority share in well-established Czech independent arthouse distribution company Aerofilms (see the news). The move led to a merger between Aerofilms’ own VoD platform, Aerovod, and KVIFF.TV, thus increasing the synergies between the festival, and online and theatrical distribution. “Together with colleagues from the festival's programme team, we are closely following the current direction of world cinema, so with joy and cinephilic excitement, we welcome the opportunity to share experiences from the films we’ve watched not only with the festival audience during the ten summer days, but also with our new, virtual audience 12 months a year. We want the audience in our online cinema to feel great, so in addition to quality films, we also offer a variety of alternative content that will enhance the emotions they feel from the images seen and will provide another, no less exciting, dimension of the extraordinary viewer experience,” says artistic director Karel Och.

During the July event, KVIFF.TV will offer daily festival news and interviews with the guests. It will also introduce the directors who will be screening films at the festival in a segment called Meet the Filmmakers, while the programming team, led by the artistic director himself, will be presenting some choice tips in the Film Brief and Curator’s Choice segments. Besides this, KVIFF Legends will showcase important festival personalities, and Famous Festivals will offer a behind-the-scenes peek at other venerated film events.

In addition to news, interviews and inspiration, the content on KVIFF.TV will include competitions, slow TV from the festival hotspots and other key moments, including the red-carpet arrivals. The entire festival content will be available live and on demand in the Czech or English language, subtitled and free of charge. Furthermore, the 56th edition of KVIFF will launch the year-round operations of KVIFF.TV for the territories of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The platform will be streaming a selection of this year’s titles once the festival wraps. The gathering plans to expand the platform into other countries in Central and Eastern Europe in the near future.

The 56th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will unspool from 1-9 July.
