The story, penned by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), revolves around runaway Elmer Elevator who searches for a captive dragon on Wild Island and finds far more than he ever could have anticipated. The story is inspired by the Newbery-honoured 1948 children’s book of the same name by American writer Ruth Stiles Gannett.

“We were drawn together by a desire to tell a very special tale of friendship, adventure, and true bravery. I fell in love with storytelling as a child and Netflix excels at celebrating all kinds of stories, through different styles and distinct voices. [...] Our crew created a beautiful, animated lens to look through and I can't wait to share this perspective with audiences around the world,” commented Twomey.

The project features a stellar voice-cast including the likes of Jacob Tremblay, Gaten Matarazzo, Golshifteh Farahani, Dianne Wiest, Rita Moreno, Chris O’Dowd, Judy Greer, Alan Cumming, Yara Shahidi, Jackie Earle Haley, Mary Kay Place, Leighton Meester, Spence Moore II, Adam Brody, Charlyne Yi, Maggie Lincoln, Jack Smith, Whoopi Goldberg and Ian McShane.

My Father’s Dragon is produced by Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn for US-based Mockingbird Pictures and by Paul Young for Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon, the award-winning studio behind hits such as The Secret of Kells, The Breadwinner, Song of the Sea [+see also:
