24/11/2022 - The film commission has been selected for the awards celebrating excellence in global production, thanks to its "Patriarchs of Nature” initiative

The Roma Lazio Film Commission is a finalist in the 3rd edition of the makers & shakers Awards, in the category of "Film Commission Initiative of the Year". This competition is dedicated to initiatives which have had “a significant impact on the region and resulted in an interesting proposal for a film, TV series, advert or short format work”. The winners will be announced during an awards ceremony unfolding at the BAFTAs’ headquarters in Piccadilly, London, on 7 December. The jury is composed of leading international film professionals hailing from firms such as Warner Bros., Studios Leavesden (UK), LMGI and PACT, as well as winners of past editions.

The Roma Lazio Film Commission has been selected for its initiative entitled "Patriarchs of Nature: A Location and a Resource”. In 2021, by way of the Italian Association for Nature’s Patriarchs, the Italian capital’s film commission, which is active in promoting the Lazio region and its varied cultural, professional, artistic and natural resources, began promoting great arboreal patriarchs” - veritable natural monuments - as possible locations for film and audiovisual works and as an enchanting source of inspiration for settings and stories. The Lazio region boasts countless ancient trees, such as Palombara Sabina’s Millennial Olive Tree (RM), or Patrica’s Oak (FR), which is estimated to be five hundred years old, or Amatrice’s Turkey Oak (RI), which is over six hundred years old.

The Roma Lazio Film Commission has mapped over 50 “patriarchs” on its soil, with the potential to be used as locations, in order to promote this increasingly varied and attractive region, and to protect the surrounding environment and its resources.

Another Italian film commission featured among the total 7 selected: the Trentino FC, thanks to its “Green Film DOC”, which is a new version of the Green Film grading system, launched in June 2022 and specifically adapted to documentary production.

The other selected FCs were the Cherokee Nation Film Office (Oklahoma, USA), which focuses on greater representation of Native American Indians; the Dominican Republic Film Commission, with its "Film Friendly Samana” initiative; the Film Queenstown Lakes (New Zealand), for its “Tahuna Screenwriters Retreat”; The National Film Authority of Ghana, for its “Meta Cinema African Forum”;  and The Ukrainian Content for its “Global Cooperation”, which was presented at Cannes’ MIPTV back in April.
