FESTIVALS France

A DV Celebration

by

- Lyon hosts the 1st International Festival of New Generation Cinema

In the two years Europe has been literally submerged in a wave of digitally produced films whose number has grown exponentially over a twelve-month period, going from an initial 15 in 2000 to over 50 shorts and features in 2001. There can be no doubt that DV represents an vitally important turning point in the audiovisual industry and one that we ignore at our peril.
For four days, from June 13 to 16, the futuristic Citè Internationale of Lyon in France will be home to the first edition of the International Festival of the New Generation (DV) with three main sections, an official competition to find the best feature and short film, and important sidebar sections like the self-explanatory «Cinema & Videogames» and «Cinema & Contemporary Art», that includes experimental films that really push out the technological envelope.
The films in competition include Josef Fares´ Jalla Jalla (Sweden), Claude Duty´s Filles Perdues cheveux gras (France) -first seen at Critics´ Week in Cannes 55 and Vincent Lanoo´s Strass (Belgium).
