The imminent Berlinale (16-26 February) will serve as the special setting to wrap up the work done during the first edition of SeriesLab Talents, which, over the course of 2022, involved five emerging talents in new drama writing and gave them the chance to experience working in a real writers’ room, guided by a high-profile script editor, and to build strong connections with other international writers.

On Monday 20 February, from 16.00-18.30 at Gropius Bau – 2nd floor, during the event Only Writers in the Building (co-hosted by the Berlinale Series Market, and organised by TorinoFilmLab [TFL] and the MIDPOINT Institute, in collaboration with EAVE and ACE), the five writers trained by TorinoFilmLab will officially introduce themselves, together with five other writers trained by the MIDPOINT Institute.

During the five-month 2022 SeriesLab Talents proceedings, Carla Grauls (Belgium/UK), Alice Von Gwinner (Germany), Fabrizio Muscia (Italy), Nach Solis (Spain) and Svitlana Topor (Poland) worked together to develop the TV-series project The Freezing Point, a black comedy-drama, under the guidance of Tony Grisoni (head of studies) and Rory Gleeson (story editor).

Moreover, TorinoFilmLab – organised by the National Museum of Cinema and supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe - MEDIA sub-programme, focused on international auteurs and audiovisual professionals – is opening the 2023 cycle of training courses all centred on series. These are SeriesLab and SeriesLab Talents, which will be enriched by important new elements.

SeriesLab is opening up to the international scene, welcoming up to a maximum of nine innovative and market-orientated TV-series projects from all over the world. Aimed at screenwriters, directors and producers, the course is intended to develop projects through three workshops which will be held from September 2023 onwards, and during five months, they will involve all of the main players linked to TV-series production, thus offering a close connection with the television industry.

Furthermore, for the first time, TorinoFilmLab will award a development grant of €10,000 to one of the projects. The SeriesLab application form is open until 31 March.

For the second year, TFL is flinging open the doors of a writers' room for five international professional screenwriters wishing to broaden their experience in writing TV series and hone the skills required by a sector in constant expansion. The SeriesLab Talents application form is also open until 31 March.

SeriesLab and SeriesLab Talents are organised by TorinoFilmLab - National Museum of Cinema, supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe - MEDIA sub-programme, and with backing from Millimeter Film and VAF - Flanders Audiovisual Fund. SeriesLab Talents is also organised in partnership with FOCAL.
