Winner of the Golden Camera in Cannes in 1993 with The Scent of Green Papaya (which was presented in Un Certain Regard then won the 1994 César award for Best Feature Debut), then of the Golden Lion in Venice in 1995 with Cyclo, the French filmmaker of Vietnamese heritage Tran Anh Hung has returned to the Croisette (again in Un Certain Regard) in 2000 with The Vertical Ray of the Sun before once again returning to the Venice competition in 2010 with Norwegian Wood.
