Italy’s MIA - Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo is returning to Rome from 9 to 13 October 2023 for its nineth edition, hosted by the Palazzo Barberini and the Cinema Barberini.
Directed by Gaia Tridente and promoted by ANICA and APA, the MIA is currently the most important industry event in Italy and one of the leading international markets dedicated to the entire audiovisual sector, which, with each edition, demonstrates its excellence, attracts new partners, uncovers new business models, reflects upon financial strategies for content production, encourages the circulation of works, facilitates the development of different forms of exploitation, and forges business relations with operators from all corners of the globe. The MIA is also a platform which provides national and institutional institutions with an opportunity to systematise how they operate in terms of public and regional funding, soft money, discovering territories, and forging relationships in order to devise and enhance actions supporting production and distribution.
The last edition of the MIA closed with excellent results: upwards of 2,400 participants hailing from 60 or so countries around the world, with a 20% rise in attendance on the previous year. With its strong editorial programme, representing the entire audiovisual ecosystem and its many paradigms, 2022 was a pivotal year for the MIA, transforming the market into a hotbed for discussion, debate and exchange between the most influential international executives hailing from all around the globe.
This 2023 edition will look to capitalise on the position the MIA has achieved over the years, whilst also enhancing the event by way of an even richer programme dedicated to professionals working in the production and distribution of animations, documentaries, factual works, films and series, and consisting of pitching forums, market screenings, showcases, networking events, conferences, and workshops and meetings aimed at strengthening relations between sector professionals and at promoting new collaboration and business agreements. Significant space is also set aside for technologies and for the Innovation for the Creative Industries Programme and the B2B Exchange Programme, which is aimed at encouraging the circulation of professionals and works between European countries. As in previous editions, on-site activities will be enhanced and joined up to those taking place online by way of the online MIA DIGITAL platform.
