Currently in preparations for its fifth edition, the Writers' Room programme offered by the MIDPOINT Institute aims to support aspiring writers and producers who do not have a specific project under way at present, but who possess a strong desire to embark on their careers as writers' room members or showrunners. This programme not only teaches specialised writing techniques, but also offers valuable insights into the dynamics of a writers' room, nurturing the creative process and inspiring innovative concepts.

The MIDPOINT Writers’ Room presents an opportunity to participate in an internationally diverse writers' room led by accomplished European and US showrunners and writers. This immersive workshop will take place in Prague from 9-14 October, providing five days of intensive training. During this period, participants will partake in a series of lectures and hands-on exercises that involve plotting and writing, simulating the experience of working in an actual writers' room from two distinct perspectives: procedural and serialised shows.

The programme combines theoretical lectures with plotting exercises and immersive simulations to offer comprehensive insights into the structure, hierarchy and processes involved in scripted series writing. By completing the programme, graduates will acquire valuable knowledge and skills related to the intricacies of writing for television series. This includes fostering creative teamwork, collaborative brainstorming, establishing a unified narrative voice and vision, as well as understanding the structure of individual episodes within a series.

Furthermore, the 2023 Writers' Room offers selected alumni a special opportunity to introduce themselves to industry experts as talented European writers dedicated to advancing their careers in the TV-series industry. Participants will receive mentorship from an experienced pitching tutor as part of their training. This event, organised by the Berlinale Series Market, is specifically tailored for this purpose.
