Walloon cinema on show

by

The minister-president of the Walloon government, Jean-Claude Van Cauwenberghe and the director of Wallimage, Philippe Reynaert have officially opened the exhibition “Action"! Cinema in Walloon”. The showcase is being held in Brussels and many professionals from the world of Belgium cinema, like the filmmakers Jaco Van Dormael and Benoît Mariage also attended the inauguration ceremony on October 31.

The aim of the initiative is to give a higher profile to the Walloon art of cinema, its talents and international successes all on display in the Belgium Capital. The showcase stresses the successes achieved through numerous artists, the availability of excellent working conditions, the creation of regional funding, the development of important infrastructures and the help obtained from festivals, which are important places for meetings and information exchange. The public is invited to discover the various aspects of the filmmaking industry, through the display filled with objects, trophies, photos, posters, film extracts and interviews. Visitors also have the opportunity to find out more about production companies, important directors, increasingly famous actors, the characteristic Walloon genre of documentary making, short works and animation films.
The exhibition will be free and open to the public from November 4 until January 24, 2004 in the Walloon Space, which has now been in operation in the centre of Brussels, very near to the Grand’Place, for six months.
