Intermission big winner at the IFTAs

John Crowley's Intermission won four top awards at the Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTA) Ceremony in Dublin, held last Saturday, including Best Director, Best Script (Mark O'Rowe) and Best Supporting Actor (David Wilmot).
Intermission had the most nominations (11) and it is enjoying a fantastic run at the Irish box office with over €2.5m so far. Produced by Company of Wolves and Parallel Films, the film supported by the Irish Film Board has just become the IFB's highest grossing film at home and will be released by Buena Vista International in the UK on November 28.

The other big winners of the 2003 IFTAs were Dead Bodies and Spin The Bottle which both left with three awards each: Dead Bodies' Andrew Scott was named Best Actor, Dermot Diskin Best Editor and Daniel Birch Best Sound Editor, while Spin The Bottle's John Mac Phillips won for Best Music, Kathy Strachan for Best Costume Design and Padraig O'Neill for Best Art Direction.

Angeline Ball was named Best Actress in two categories, for her performance in the feature film Bloom and for the TV Drama, Any Time Now. The other main winners were Peter Robertson named Best Cinematographer for Song For a Raggy Boy, Ruth MacCabe, Best Supporting Actress for her part in Any Time Now, and Colin O'Donoghue, voted Best New Talent for his role in Home For Christmas.
Meeting Che Guevara And The Man From Maybury Hill was elected Best Short Film, Escape, produced by Jam Media Best Animation and Harvest Films' Oilean Yjorai won Best documentary. The big losers were Veronica Guerin (with 7 nominations nominated), Goldfish Memories (nominated six times), and The Actors, which all left empty handed.
