A new comedy-drama titled Tales of the Sea is currently in post-production. The project wrapped principal photography in June and is being helmed by Los Angeles-based Italian filmmaker Luca Severi. The picture was shot on location in Apulia, Italy, and on the Ionian Sea.

The story, penned by Dino Sardella, revolves around a poor fisherman’s son (played by Luka Zunic, previously seen in the Venice-screened titles Thou Shalt Not Hate [+see also:

), who find themselves lost on the Ionian Sea. They must overcome their suspicions of one another if they are to make it safely back to land. Marco Tomaselli is attached as the DoP.

On the last day of filming, Severi said: “We wrapped Tales of the Sea today, and it’s the end of an incredible adventure, shared both on screen by our two characters and behind the scenes by our cast and crew, as we filmed entirely on location, in the middle of the sea, in difficult weather, in the beautiful Apulia region that has hosted us for the past few weeks. Once again, I feel overwhelmed looking back at the passion and the talent that the entire team has put into the making of the film, and I’m certain it will all be part of the story that the audience will watch on screen.”

Meanwhile, Faye commented: “The first thing that surprised me about this film was the script. Tackling such an important theme using comedy was an inspired choice. The movie is just as likely to make you laugh out loud as it is to move you to tears.”

“I am honoured to be part of this beautiful project. It has been a great acting challenge. I wish to thank the entire team who took part in this crazy film – in particular, director Luca Severi, who helped me discover a passion for indie cinema. I can't wait for you all to see what we've been up to,” added Zunic.

Tales of the Sea is Severi’s third feature, following That Click (2019) and Calypso (2019), and the latest from Los Angeles- and Rome-based firm Luca Severi Production Group. Other projects on the outfit’s slate that are currently in post-production include Jaclyn Bethany’s Tell That to the Winter Sea and The Invisible Girl, and Phoebe Nir’s Eco Village.

The feature is being produced by Giovanni Labadessa and Lorenzo Mazzè. The release date is yet to be confirmed.
