Nutley's new film at MIFED

by

AB Svensk Filmindustri is going to present Colin Nutley’s new English language film, The Queen of Sheba’s Pearls at MIFED in Milan (November 9-13,2003).

The film marks the director’s return to his roots in Southern England… for the duration of shooting. Nutley left Britain in the early 80s to work in Sweden where he built himself a solid career with successful films such as House of Angels (1990), Such is Life (1994) and the Oscar nominated Under The Sun (1996).
For The Queen of Sheba’s Pearls, based on his own material, the director is going to reunite Under The Sun’s co-stars, Helena Bergström and Rolf Lassgård, who will be photographed by Nutley’s usual DoP, Jens Fisher. The English crew will include Eileen Atkins (The Hours), Tim Dutton (Ally McBeal) and Peter Vaughun (The Mother).
Set in post-war Southern England, the film tells the story of 16 year-old Jack who lives with his grandmother in a vicarage following the haunting death of his mother Emily in the war. One day, a Swedish woman who strikingly resemblances his mother arrives at the house, looking for lodgings.
The film is a Swedish/UK co-production between Nutley’s Sweetwater Films and AKA Pictures for Swedish broadcaster TV4 and Svensk Filmindustri.
Ann-Kristin Westerberg, Head of SF’s International division will start selling The Queen… at MIFED, as well as Popular Music from Vittula, the new film by Reza Bagher (Wings of Glass) currently in production. The only film screening will be Kjell-Áke Andersson’s drama comedy Let’s Play House (Mamma PappaBarn) starring Torkel Petersson (Jalla Jalla!) and Maria Bonnevie (I Am Dina).
