Cinecittà rebuilds the Empire

During the first few months of 2004 Cinecittà will be the set for Rome, a blockbuster about the glories of the ancient empire being made for the small screen. Rome is a co-production between the American broadcaster HBO and the BBC. It will be divided into 12 parts and will be broadcast first in Britain in 2005 and then in America. This very expense historical series will cost €850,000 per episode. It is written by Bruno Heller and will be directed by Michael Apted. There will be plenty of special effects used for the big battle scenes, made with cutting edge technology.

The TV film will be set between the years 50-44 BC, during the time of Mark Anthony, Octavius and Julius Cesar. The story will be told from the viewpoint of two of Julius Cesar’s faithful centurions, who remember the battles and the journeys of their boss and recall the ambiance of the Capital of the Roman empire. The casting for the stars of Rome is currently underway. The crew is mainly made up of British and American workers and a few scenes will be shot in Bulgaria, Slovakia and America.
