MARKET France

Record presence at MIFED

by

French participation at this year’s MIFED (November 9-13) beats all records, thanks to the 20 companies that will be attending the market in Milan. And their portfolios of films already ready or being made, seem to have strong potential, with works by directors like Etienne Chatiliez and Régis Wargnier or the adaptation of the latest book by Jean-Christophe Grangé, the author of The Crimson Rivers and L'empire des Loups.

There’s a strong presence by Wild Bunch, which will be proposing three films that have either just been released in France or are about to be released: Janis and John starring Marie Trintignant and François Cluzet, Errance by Damien Odoul starring Laetitia Casta, and Happy End by Amos Kollek starring Audrey Tautou. In addition, there’s also Man to Man, the new film by Régis Wargnier which will be up for sale for the first time at MIFED.

Apart from this promising feature length film, TF1 Intl will also be opening negotiations on Hanging Offence by Guillaume Nicloux, L'outre-mangeur starring Eric Cantona and Bienvenue au gîte by Claude Duty.

The other companies with a large presence at MIFED are Pathé International, which will be presenting three recent productions (Le coût de la vie by Philippe Le Guay, Je Reste! by Diane Kurys starring Sophie Marceau and Vincent Perez, and the film Mauvais esprit). Then StudioCanal will be selling CASH TRUCK, the animated film La prophétie des grenouilles and NATHALIE X by Anne Fontaine starring Emmanuelle Béart, Gérard Depardieu and Fanny Ardant). There’s also a lot of interest for sales to start for the new film by Enzo d'Alo, Opopomoz, offered by MK2 Diffusion.

Then Flach Pyramide International will be proposing France Boutique by Tonie Marshall for the first time and Violence des échanges en milieu tempéré.
But the most interesting filoms that appear to have the most promise are being showcased by Gaumont which is selling 36 by Olivier Marchal, a whodunit with Daniel Auteuil andGérard Depardieu, and l'Empire des loups, an adaptation of the fourth book by the author of The Crimson Rivers, Jean-Christophe Granger, a thriller directed by Chris Nahon starring the couple Jean Reno-Olivier Martinez.
