Apple TV+ announces new crime thriller series Criminal Record
- The show, created by Paul Rutman, stars Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo as two detectives in a tug of war over a high-profile murder case
This week, Apple TV+ unveiled a new crime thriller series titled Criminal Record. Created by BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman (Vera, Indian Summers), the eight-episode show promises to be “a powerful, character-driven drama set in the heart of contemporary London,” touching on “issues of race, institutional failure and the quest to find common ground in a polarised Britain.”
The project is directed by BAFTA Award winner Jim Loach (Save Me Too, Oranges and Sunshine [+see also:

The plot of Criminal Record sees an anonymous phone call drawing two brilliant detectives — Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty, a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy, and Detective Sergeant June Lenker, a young woman in the early stages of her career — into a confrontation over an old murder case. The two leading roles are respectively played by Academy Award and BAFTA winner Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Thick of It), and Laurence Olivier Award and Critics Choice Award nominee Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife, The Good Fight, The Beast Must Die).
The other attached cast members are Charlie Creed-Miles, Dionne Brown, Shaun Dooley, Stephen Campbell-Moore, Zoë Wanamaker, Rasaq Kukoyi, Maisie Ayres, Aysha Kala, Cathy Tyson and Tom Moutchi.
Criminal Record is being produced for Apple TV+ by UK outfits Tod Productions and STV Studios. Elaine Collins, Rutman, Capaldi and Jumbo are serving as executive producers. The show will premiere on Apple TV+, with the first two episodes released on 12 January 2024, followed by new ones every Friday through 23 February.
