The Huelva Meetings
There was a good turnout for the 3rd edition of the “Raices” Cinema Meetings, promoted as part of the 29th Festival of Spanish-American Cinema in Huelva.
The conference was attended by professionals from the sector, as well as representatives from the agencies responsible for supporting cinema in Spain and Argentina.
“Raices” was set up by the Argentinean National Film Institute to strengthen international relations through a variety of activities, and it has promoted an increase in co-productions with Spain. In fact 2002 there were around 20 co-productions and this figure should be ever higher for 2003. There are a number of projects currently underway promoted as part of the Meetings programme, and made in financial collaboration with various Spanish regions. To continue this fruitful relationship there is a new competition being set up starting from 2004 for the development of new projects, with two prizes up for grabs, worth €30,000 each. The winners will be announced during the next Huelva Festival.
This year’s meetings included participation by the director general of the Spanish ICAA, Josè Maria Otero, and the other activities promoted by this year’s event include a number of film exchanges, shown in travelling reviews, in a bid to promote Spanish and Argentinean productions, and to continue the cooperation between the two countries through further co-productions.
