Nine years after enrapturing the Croisette with Mad Max: Fury Road, Australian filmmaker George Miller will once again make a splash in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival with a new episode (the fifth, and a prequel to the four previous instalments) in his famous dystopian saga, as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be shown out of competition on 15 May during the 77th edition of the gathering (14-25 May).

Toplined by Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be released in French and Belgian theatres on 22 May by Warner Bros, in Italian, German, Dutch, Hungarian, Slovak and Portuguese dark rooms on 23 May, and in the UK, Spain, Scandinavia and the USA on 24 May.

As a reminder, George Miller also presented Three Thousand Years of Longing out of competition at Cannes in 2022.

The entirety of the Official Selection of the 77th Cannes Film Festival will be unveiled on 11 April, the Critics’ Week selection on 15 April and that of the Directors’ Fortnight on 16 April. Greta Gerwig will chair the Official Competition jury (see the news), and Xavier Dolan will preside over that of the Un Certain Regard programme (see the article).
