SFI new round of support

The Swedish Film Institute (SFI) has announced its latest round of advance allocations to feature films, children films, documentaries and short films.

Leif Magnusson’s new feature film, produced by Malmö-based Auto Images was granted SFI support for half of its Skr 12m budget. The project described by its producer, Mattias Nohrborg, (the head of leading art-house distribution company Triangelfilm) as a “thriller/political drama with a love story attached” will start shooting on April 7, 2004.

Världens Bästa Pappa (“The Best Dad In The World”) produced by Lennart Dunér for Omega Film, was awarded Skr 4,5m. The feature film debut of Maria Essén is a feel-good movie about a father trying to handle both work and day care of his daughter, Vilma, at the same time.

The children’s film Bombay Dreams directed by Lena Koppel and produced by Patrick Ryborn (S/S Fladen Film) currently being shot, was awarded Skr 4m and Pil Maria Gunnarson’s other children’s film Alltid På En Tisdag (“Always on Tuesday”), produced by Christina Olofson and Solveig Nordlund for Cine Qua Non, was awarded Skr 350,000.
Among the short films being supported is Babak Najfi’s Elixir produced by Lukas Moodysson and Josef Fares’ usual production company, Memfis Film & TV. Elixir, which was awarded Skr 750,000, is about a group of four immigrant youngsters who discover an elixir that can transform them into Swedish people, both physically and culturally, but the elixir doesn’t only bring good things. The film is part of the SFI and Swedish Television’s support to new Swedish filmmakers.
