Production costs are much lower than elsewhere and the country has a first class infrastructure, There are extraordinary stories and locations but a lack of expertise in marketing them internationally», said James Mitchell, an executive with Little Bird. This Irish production company that co-produced Bridget Jones´ Diary and Croupier, is on the verge of underwriting a co-production deal with South Africa´s Coronation Capital to make a feature-length documentary about the music of Sophiatown. The film will cost 600.000 euro. Coronation Capital has asked South Africa´s Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) for funding, and has already sold the Sophiatown documentary to Britain´s BBC, France 2 and Denmark´s TV2, with negotiations underway with German and Scandinavian broadcasters.
