Turin-born filmmaker Giulio Base’s latest feature, a religious drama titled Judas’ Gospel, is now in post-production. The picture started principal photography in Southern Calabria in July. For four weeks, the crew shot on location in Curinga, Corigliano-Rossano, Cleto, Cosenza, Mendicino, Caccuri and the Sila National Park.
Minerva Pictures, the firm in charge of the pic’s international sales, which is now shopping it at the Toronto International Film Festival (6-15 September), scored its first pre-sale deal with Hungarian outfit Plus Films KFT, which snagged its Latin American rights. The announcement was first reported by Variety.
Some of Base’s latest endeavours include The Anarchist Banker [+see also:

Judas’ Gospel takes an innovative approach to retelling the tale of Judas Iscariot, known for his biblical betrayal of Jesus when he disclosed his whereabouts for 30 pieces of silver. Throughout the film, Judas, who is about to die, reflects on his life and his relationship with Jesus and the disciples.
On the same day, two men die, hanging just a few steps away from each other: Jesus on the cross, and Judas on a tree. They are mirror images: one needs the other for his destiny to be fulfilled.
A star-studded cast is attached. Key roles are played by Rupert Everett, Paz Vega, John Savage, Darko Peric, Tomasz Kot and Abel Ferrara. Meanwhile, the technical crew includes DoP Giuseppe Riccobene, editor Micaela Natascia Di Vito and set designer Gianluca Salamone.
Judas’ Gospel is being produced by Tiziana Rocca’s Agnus Dei Production (Italy) with Minerva Pictures (Italy) and Agresywna Banda (Poland), in association with RAI Cinema, and with backing from the Calabria Film Commission.
The official release date is yet to be confirmed.
