In the words of the director, “taking this oral archive as a starting point, Tale of Shepherds came out of a desire to add to this tradition of stories that are my heritage, filming the people who tell them to me: my grandmother, my friends from the village. In any transmission process there are two foundational times: the time of remembering and the time of forgetting. Both are equally important in shaping any heritage and identity. That is why this film is both documentary and fantasy, past and future, dream and resistance. It’s from this intersection that this present emanates, to continue thinking about how to inhabit it, to continue thinking about the generative ways of living with the ruins.”

Jaime Puertas Castillo grew up between Andalusia, where he began filming in his homeland, with family and friends from the village, and Catalonia, where he met the crew with whom he makes his films. Together they have made the short film Los Páramos (2019) and, now, their first feature film.

The film is the first production for Películas Maria and includes the participation of Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, supported by Puebla de Don Fadrique Town Council. The film will be released in Spanish cinemas by its production company.
