The production team are describing the film as “a complex and exciting story about the never-ending battle between the rational and animal sides of human nature. It’s a modern tragedy with daytime film noir undercurrents which gives rise to psychological horror”. The movie sees the life of a rich art collector upended by a tragic event. Floored by the unbearable pain this brings, an instinctive and primordial nature awakens within her, causing her to destroy her own privileged life and to reconstruct a new idea of family. Written by Andrea Corsini in league with Massimo Vavassori, the movie is inspired by the director’s short film of the same name, presented in competition at Venice International Critics’ Week (SIC) in 2019 after being selected for the Frontières Co-Production Market in partnership with Cannes’ Marché du Film.
The film’s director of photography is Fabrizio La Palombara, while editing will fall to Matteo Mossi. Set design comes courtesy of Carlotta Desmann and costumes are by Silvia Nebiolo. Produced by Francesco Grisi and Giorgia Priolo on behalf of EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani, with support from the Piemonte Film TV Fund and the Film Commission Torino Piemonte, Beasts of Prey will further benefit from contributions from VFX, who are managed by EDI themselves, as well as from music from maestro Pino Donaggio, who’s mostly known for collaborating with Brian De Palma. Distribution in Italy is entrusted to Adler Entertainment.
