Beta Film’s thriller series The Couple Next Door has been sold to more than 55 territories after its broadcast on Channel 4 (UK) and Starz (USA/Canada). The episodic drama was Channel 4’s biggest drama streaming launch of all time.

The Munich-based producer, financier and distributor has secured major deals in Europe with RTL (Germany), RAI (Italy), VTM (Belgium), Amazon Netherlands (first window) and RTL Netherlands (second window). In other territories, Beta Film has also cemented a deal with YES (Israel), and NBC Universal has snagged the show for Brazil/Latin America and NOW TV, the largest pay-TV operator in Hong Kong. The news was first reported by Variety.

Executive-produced by Jo McGrath, Walter Iuzzolino and Alison Kee, The Couple Next Door is loosely adapted from the Dutch series The Neighbours by Millstreet Films, which itself is based on a novel by Saskia Noort. The series is written by David Allison (Marcella, Bedlam), directed by Dries Vos (Suspect, Professor T) and produced by Jen Burnet.

The six-hour psychological thriller show stars television favourites Sam Heughan (Outlander, Suspect), Eleanor Tomlinson (The Outlaws, Poldark), Jessica De Gouw (Pennyworth, Our Man From Jersey) and Alfred Enoch (How to Get Away With Murder, Harry Potter). The Couple Next Door explores the claustrophobia of suburbia and the fallout of chasing one’s darkest desires through the lives of Evie (Tomlinson) and her husband Pete (Enoch), who move in next door to couple Danny (Heughan) and Becka (De Gouw). A night spent between Evie and Danny threatens to unravel the carefully constructed web of deceit and desire strung between the new neighbours.

Commissioned by and broadcast on Channel 4 and Starz, the series was produced by Eagle Eye in association with Beta Film. Beta Film is also the international partner for the series and is steering its world sales.
